Coming up on Connections: Friday, October 15

First hour: Discussing NYS ballot proposals 2, 3, and 4

Second hour: How to increase access to mental health services for children in needVoters in New York will see five proposals on the ballot this Election Day. Two relate to voting rights and one pertains to clean air and water. What do voters need to know? And what impact would the proposals have, if passed? We discuss these questions with our guests:

  • Assemblymember Jen Lunsford (D), District 135
  • Peter Iwanowicz, executive director of Environmental Advocates NY
  • Lisa Nicolay, Republican commissioner for the Monroe County Board of Elections

Then in our second hour, local children's health advocates say they are increasingly concerned about the mental and behavioral health needs among the community's kids. They say the pandemic, violence in schools and the community, and the stressors of living in poverty have left many children -- especially those from disadvantaged communities -- with unmet needs. This hour, our guests examine the gaps in services and make their recommendations for how to increase access to care. Our guests:

  • Brigit Hurley, senior director of advocacy and program for The Children's Agenda
  • Sara Taylor, parent advocate, and founder of the BIPOC PEEEEEK Communities of Color Parent Mental Health project
  • Marc Fliedner, director of the PAIR and PAIMI programs for Disability Rights New York
