A Rochester mother- daughter duo who bonded over writing a book about self-esteem together, wants to help other mothers and daughters connect through collaborative goal setting.
Danielle Walters and her daughter Ja’lynn Patmon recently hosted a ‘Mommy and Me’ vision board party.
25 women and their daughters attended the event where the main activity was to create visual tools to take home as a daily reminder of their dreams and goals together.
Walters, who has helped her daughter set and achieve many goals last year, says there is more to come from her 8-year-old this year.
“So Ja’lynn just won the Roc award as a ‘rising star’ and so for this year Ja’lynn is working on a book herself. Of course I am helping her along the way but she is definitely taking on the writing process.”
The first book from the duo is called, Pretty from the Kink in my Curls to the Beat in my Step.
Ja’lynn says the econd book is, “… basically about me and my mom going out of town, and Coco (her dog) spending his weekend with grandma. The title of it is called Coco’s Weekend with Grandma.”
In addition to helping write another book, 8 year old Ja’lynn says she enjoys working with her mother achieve her other yearly goals.
“My vision is to…get more events and get more famous.”
She says she’s hoping to be a guest a on the Ellen DeGeneres show this year, for her literacy efforts.
Walters and Ja’lynn plan to continue to share their message of self-esteem around the country. Both will attend a conference next month in North Carolina as keynote speaker and panelist.
