InterVol is asking for donations to send to Puerto Rico

intervol.org

A local not-for-profit is seeking donations for those affected by Hurricane Maria.

InterVol director Nicole Jones says they are working with two hospitals in Puerto Rico, one in San Juan and one in Ponce to help those in need.

"We collect medical supplies from all the area hospitals. One of the things that obviously down in Puerto Rico they need, I mean their hospitals have been destroyed,  they need medical supplies as soon as possible."

Jones says they are also collecting personal care items from the public including things like toothbrushes, feminine hygiene products, toilet paper and deodorant.

She says the news doesn’t do justice to the widespread destruction.

"I wish there were more photos coming out of Puerto Rico just so people could recognize the devastation that’s happened."

Jones says the organization is working with the Air Force to coordinate sending people and items to the islands.

Locally, InterVol is looking for volunteers, especially those who can lift heavy weights as they will be building pallets for shipping in the coming weeks.

Donations can be made at participating high schools and hospitals through Friday October 6th, find out more on Intervol.org.
