Dozens of Rochester-area runners are among the estimated 30,000 who took part in the Boston Marathon Monday.

One of them is Bill Pollock, president and CEO of Optimation Technology in Rush.

He said security was more prevalent on the streets of Boston than it was before the bombing two years ago.  But Pollock, speaking to WXXI News just before the race, said he was not  concerned about his personal safety.

"I mean, personal safety could be worse walking down the street in Rochester than here. People get shot randomly there, too, you know, " Pollock said.

Pollock described an upbeat , party-like atmosphere near the starting point of the marathon this morning, despite some cold, wet weather.

"It's a huge, huge, huge party in Boston and they have so many volunteers and everybody is upbeat. It's fantastic. Basically, they're making a statement. 'We went through a rough time and now, we're going to show how Boston's strong.' It's huge fun being here."

Pollock finished the race in just over 3-hours, 50 minutes so he will qualify to run again next year.
