Inmate Dies After Fight At The Monroe County Jail

npr.org

Monroe County deputies say that a male inmate who was involved in a fight with two other inmates at the county jail last Sunday has died. And now deputies have made two arrests.

They say after that fight on Sunday morning, 38 year old Pedro Sanchez complained of pain and was taken to Rochester General. He was treated and eventually cleared by hospital staff to return to the jail.

On Monday, officials say Sanchez was evaluated by jail and medical staff  for what appeared to be serious medical issues. He was taken to Strong Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.  The county medical examiner ruled the death to be due to blunt force trauma.

Deputies have now charged two other inmates, 19 year old Darren Bridges and 19 year old Tra'Shawn Bell with first degree manslaughter.
