A Rochester Police Officer has died, the result of multiple shootings on the city's northeast side on Wednesday night.
It happened around 9:30 p.m. in the area of Hudson Avenue and Warsaw Street with reports that an RPD officer died after being shot in the line of duty. Three other people reportedly were injured.
The officer was taken to Rochester General. Media reports are that the officer has died. This fatality would be the 9th Rochester Police Officer shot in the line of duty.
There are reports that a total of four people were shot.
Witnesses tell Time Warner Cable News that a police officer shot at a suspect in the area, and the suspect returned fire.
Rochester City Council President Loretta Scott releases statement about officer killed in the line of duty:
"The City Council would like to offer our sincere condolences to the family of the RPD officer that was killed this evening while on duty. Our community owes a debt of gratitude to this officer who ultimately gave his life protecting and serving our city.
We ask that you keep the officer’s family, and the officers of the RPD in your thoughts and prayers as they, and our community as a whole, mourn this tragic loss."
