Rochester's First Female Postmaster Installed
Rochester's first Postmaster was installed in 1812.
33 Postmaster's later, the first woman to hold the job was sworn in during ceremonies at the main Post Office Branch in Rochester.
She's Terriann Burke, who has been with the Postal Service for 20 years, starting as a letter carrier in the city.
She says she's honored to be named Postmaster, and throughout her career she says she never felt she was treated differently because she was a woman.
Burke says she wouldn't be where she is today without her coworkers who coached her, mentored her, and challenged her to do more.
As Postmaster, Burke is responsible for the delivery of mail to some 220-thousand business and residential customers.
She says they have a great team in Rochester, and having known many of them, it'll will only enhance how they are going to lead Rochester into the future.
