In the rash of recent shootings and homicides, the Rochester police department is deploying additional foot patrols in targeted neighborhoods.
It's part of new neighborhood Cool Down Details announced by the mayor and police chief James Sheppard.
Sheppard says the aim is work to prevent violence and not simply react to it, "It's also important for us to realize that we need people to come forward to be our partners. It's not just about a zero tolerance mindset. It's about an engaging piece as well. There are a lot of good people in this city and we need them to help us as well."
Sheppard says the additional patrols include stopping city residents riding bikes who don't have bells or lights on them or groups standing on street corners who may appear to be causing trouble. Sheppard says the goal is to get illegal guns off neighborhood streets.
