Occupy Rochester Files Suit Against City

Members of the Occupy Rochester movement are taking legal action against the city of Rochester for its plan to ending the Occupy encampment in Washington Square Park. Protestors filed a lawsuit in State Supreme Court Monday.

The claim requests the court to enforce the agreement between the City and Occupy Rochester, and order the City to not remove protesters.

Mayor Tom Richards wants protestors out of the park by Sunday. The group met with him this past Friday to discuss extending their contract. Richards denied them the renewal.

Under the contract, protestors can renew the agreement for a two month period as long as they are compliant with the rules.

Richards says activists have been cooperative, however, it's a public park and the community should be able to use it.
