Wambach says now that she's retired, she's focused on changing the world for the better.

A fan celebration for Abby Wambach and her record breaking career attracted hundreds of fans and admirers to the Convention Center in Downtown Rochester.

Kids, parents, fans, and fellow athletes gathered waving pictures of Wambach and sporting her jersey. After a video montage commemorating her legacy, the soccer star was honored by Mayor Warren, her sister and nephew, and current soccer player at Our Lady of Mercy, where Wambach went to high school.

Wambach says she's happy to be celebrating in Rochester, with her family, and her fellow Rochestarians.

"I'm lucky -- so, so lucky -- because I love where I come from, and I want you guys all to know that I've never forgotten about Rochester and how important you all have been for me."

Her remarks were brief, but she had a message for young athletes.

"If you dream anything, if you want something, just go after it. Go after it and you, you might surprise yourself. Thank you guys so much. Mom, dad, I love you."

Now that she's retired from the game, Wambach says in the future she will be fighting for equality, and has already been vocal about equal pay -- not just in sports -- but all professions.

Here's video of Abby's speech to the crowd at the Convention Center:
