Monroe Community College President Anne Kress met with members of the media on Tuesday to respond to a faculty union vote of no confidence against her.
As Kress told WXXI News last week, she believes the move was a bargaining tactic on the part of union leaders in the wake of stalled contract negotiations.
Kress noted that just 60 percent of faculty members who were eligible to vote supported the no-confidence resolution.
"To me, that suggests there are a number of employees who, at this point, have no idea really what they want to do in terms of that vote,” she said. “They're waiting for an answer and I think part of that answer lies in the resolution of contract negotiations."
Kress said she will continue to reach out to faculty leaders to try to resolve their grievances. Faculty representatives have said they have been pushing for the same meetings.
Kress said she has not considered resigning and has faith that the college at the faculty union will agree to terms for a new contract. Negotiations broke down in July. There is currently no scheduled mediation session between the two sides.
