Rochester Contemporary Art Center Executive Director Bleu Cease has received an apology for an anonymous hate letter that made national news.

It started in late December, when Cease received the letter, which mocked Cease’s name, called him a "freak" and made several homophobic remarks. News outlets across the region reported on the story.

The apology letter asks forgiveness and says “I’m not a mean person but looking at my letter on TV has made me re-evaluate what I’m doing with my life.”

Cease isn’t sure if the same person wrote both letters, but he is willing to accept the apology.

“I am a little bit skeptical about but it does seem to me that if someone were to jump into this conversation to see the publicity of it and decide to write their own letter,” Cease says. “I just can’t imagine someone writing an apology letter on behalf of someone else.”

Cease turned a phrase from the original letter into a T-shirt to raise funds for his museum.
