There was a bit of shaking going on in a portion of Livingston County on Thursday night. The U.S. Geological Survey reports a minor earthquake with a 2.4 magnitude that occurred at about 8:40 p.m.
It was centered near the hamlet of Tuscarora in Mount Morris. The depth was 3.7 km (about 12,000 feet below ground level).
Livingston County Sheriff Tom Dougherty tweeted about the quake and the calls his department was getting, saying that they were “fielding a lot of calls about a loud noise and a shake to the ground.”

Please know there is no cause for alarm and we are continuing to verify the event as such.
There were no immediate reports of any damage. There were also a number of area residents writing in on the Livingston County Sheriff's Office Facebook page, talking about feeling the quake.
The USGS listed the earthquake with an intensity level of 4, which means it can produce a sensation like a heavy truck striking a building.
