Longtime Webster Police Chief Gerald Pickering is announcing his retirement. Pickering will leave in January of next year and will become Deputy Director of Public Safety at the University of Rochester.
Pickering has been Webster Police Chief since April of 2001. His law enforcement career spans 36 years, the last 30 spent with the Webster Police Department.
Pickering says he is "very proud of the men and women of the Webster Police Department, " and he says he will "never forget their dedication to service and duty especially during the Webster tragedy on December 24, 2012 when we lost one of our own, Lt. Michael (Chip) Chiapperini.
Webster Town Supervisor Ron Nesbitt says it is "with great reluctance" that he accept's Pickering's notice of retirement, calling him an "outstanding Chief of the Webster Police Department and a great asset to the Webster community"
