Senator Chuck Schumer will make a stop at the West Webster firehouse Monday afternoon to mark the recent passage of legislation to help firefighters and their families access donations that were made in the aftermath of last year's ambush that took the life of two firefighters and injured two others.
The West Webster Fireman's Association was limited in its ability to distribute more than $900,000 in donations to help the affected families due to a provision in the IRS law.
Non-profit organizations ordinarily must set up a separate charitable fund for such purposes, but the West Webster Department was overwhelmed by donations after the shooting.
Schumer and Congresswoman Louise Slaughter recently were able to get legislation that will allow the association to distribute the donations.
