New regulations from the Department of Housing and Urban Development that call on cities and localities to identify and work to eliminate racial bias in neighborhoods improves on the 1968 Fair Housing Act.
That's according to Joel Kunkler with the Housing Council at Pathstone, who says that'll help with ongoing efforts to give people fair and equitable opportunities to choose where they can live.
"I think those are issues we have to consistently address, and having stronger enforcement opportunities is always going to be better for the folks that live in our community."
Kunkler says sadly, racial bias in housing is still an issue in Rochester.
The new HUD regulations require cities to account for how they use federal funds to eliminate racial bias in neighborhoods.
The Housing Council at Pathstone is a HUD-approved comprehensive housing counseling agency.
