Governor Andrew  Cuomo says that a Western New York-based egg farm business is expanding, adding up to 55 jobs in Genesee and Wayne Counties over the next five years.

Clarence-based Newstead Ranch, associated with the Kreher family, now markets more than 47 million dozen eggs annually.

The company says that the transition to cage free egg production  requires a lot of investment in new buildings and equipment.  Newstead says the total cost of the renovations will be nearly $64 million.

Empire State Development is providing up to $3 million toward the project which will focus on the expansion of an organic egg farm in Genesee County and the transition to cage-free egg production at a farm in Wayne County.
