Wegmans is again on Fortune Magazine's "100 Best Companies to Work For" list. This year, the Rochester-based supermarket chain came in at #4, up from last year's #7 ranking. The family-owned company has been on the Fortune list for 10 consecutive years.
Wegmans is the highest ranked retailer on the list, and CEO Danny Wegman issued a statement saying that, "When our people feel cared about and respected, they turn around and make our customers feel that way too."
Fortune partners with an organization called Great Place to Work to conduct employee surveys. The surveys ask questions related to employees' attitudes about management's credibility, job satisfaction, pay and benefits and other programs.
Wegmans has 88 stores in several states and is also marking its 100th anniversary this year.
The company will celebrate the best place to work ranking this coming Saturday at 11 a.m. when cake will be served at every Wegmans store (or for customers who want a health option, Clementine tangerines will be offered).
Google ranked #1 on the Fortune list.
