Officials with Exelon Corporation, which owns the Ginna Nuclear Power Plant in Wayne County, say that the plant in the Town of Ontario has been taken offline to begin the plant's planned refueling.
They say the shutdown ended a successful 18-month operating cycle.
During the outage, Exelon brings on more than 700 additional workers to do maintenance, tests and safety inspections. Many of those activities cannot be done while the plant is online.
Exelon does not release information on how long the refueling will last.
