It was the news from Lake Wobegon, Powdermilk Biscuits, sound effects from Fred Newman, and all the staples that make up A Prairie Home Companion that came to Canandaigua on a clear summer night.
The national radio show, which is also heard on WXXI, came to CMAC on Saturday evening, drawing several thousand people.
Host and writer Garrison Keillor and his usual crew of actors and musicians were joined by some special guests including pianist Jeremy Denk, singer Heather Masse and The DiGiallonardo Sisters.
Besides the familiar cast and characters, Keillor also wove in some Finger Lakes references during the two-hour show, including a song about the National Women’s Hall of Fame, suffragettes, and of course, Finger Lakes wines (and their frequent tastings).
If you missed the broadcast Saturday night on Classical 91.5, you can catch it again on Sunday, from Noon to 2:00 p.m. on AM1370 and wxxi.org. The podcast will be available on the 'A Prairie Home Companion' website.
