State Sen. Chris Jacobs was endorsed by county Republican leaders Saturday as their candidate to run in this spring's special election in the 27th congressional district.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo has not yet scheduled the election, but has indicated it will likely be held on April 28, the date of New York's presidential primary.
His likely Democratic opponent is former Grand Island Town Supervisor Nate McMurray. They'll compete to fill the vacancy created by last fall's resignation of Chris Collins.
WBFO's Mark Scott reached Jacobs on the phone Sunday to talk more about his selection.
On Monday, GOP hopeful Beth Parlato said she will continue her campaign for the Republican nomination in the June primary. In a statement, the Williamsville attorney and Fox News contributor said the party's decision does not reflect the voters of NY-27.
"Jacobs has voted to raise taxes and fees, funded planned parenthood, has been weak on the second amendment and voted to provide free college tuition," she said. "As a Republican in name only, he is the wrong fit for the constituents in the reddest district in New York State."
