Homes along Lake Ontario Evacuated

Rochester Mayor Tom Richards andCounty Executive Maggie Brooks have declared an evacuation for nearly 2,200 homes along Lake Ontario. Those affected are being notified by telephone and through public safety personnel going door-to-door. The evacuation order was issued in response to updated weather observations from public safety personnel on scene and storm predictions from the National Weather Service.

Brooks has ordered that those residents affected take immediate action and evacuate to designated shelters. If residents find themselves unable to evacuate and need transportation, they are asked to call 311 if in the city or 654-7030 if outside the city.

City residents are being brought to the Brighton Presbyterian Church at 1775 East Avenue, where pets are welcome. Residents outside the city will be taken to one of five shelters set up around the county. Those with pets will be taken to the Dome Arena in Henrietta.
