Officials at the Ontario County Humane Society are asking for the public’s help in raising money to help care for 85 dogs seized from a home in Naples last week.
The dogs are all Cairn and Yorkshire terriers, and many of them are being treated for fleas, parasites and allergies.
The humane society has a goal of raising $125,000 to care for the animals over the next three months.
Shelter manager Dianne Faas says she is heartened by the help they have already received.
“I can honestly say I am overwhelmingly humbled by the amount of support that the community has shown, not just in our county, but from other areas as well, and the board as well as the rest of the staff, it’s unbelievable, the amount of support that we’ve been receiving,” Faas said.
Faas says one issue is that the dogs cannot be released for adoption until they get the ok by the court, and that could take months. She is hoping the people who had owned the dogs would willingly sign the dogs over to the shelter which would speed up the process.
Authorities have charged the owners, 70 year old Jane Justice and 65 year old Richard Justice, with animal cruelty.
