Conviction of man charged in the deaths of his wife and daughter

A Monroe County jury on Wednesday convicted a 38 year old man of two counts of 2nd degree murder for killing his estranged wife,  35 year old Christie Brooks and 18 year old daughter Victoria. It happened at their Wellington Avenue home the day after Thanksgiving last year.

The District Attorney’s office says that after having Thanksgiving dinner the day before, Patrick Brooks returned to Christie’s home later in the night and stabbed Christie Brooks 29 times as she slept. Prosecutors say the commotion woke up their daughter, and once seeing Victoria awake, they say Patrick Brooks stabbed Victoria 55 times.

Bill Gargan, the prosecutor in the case, said that conviction will bring justice to the two women, but he says the verdict does not change the fact that a family was torn apart by “the defendant’s violent and despicable actions.”  Gargan said that there are now “seven children who lost their mother, their oldest sister and their father will now be incarcerated for potentially the rest of his life.”

Sentencing is scheduled for December 20.
