Court Ruling Halts Tyre Casino Project

ALBANY (AP) A mid-level appeals court has vacated the site plan approval for a proposed $425 million casino in the Finger Lakes.

The Appellate Division of state Supreme Court ruling on Friday complicates efforts to build the Lago Resort & Casino in Tyre, Seneca County, just off the Thruway.

The judges said the Tyre town board did not follow state environmental law when it came to providing a clear record of why it found the project would not harm the environment.

A lawyer for the opponents said the ruling is an opportunity to do a proper environmental review.

Lago's developers did not immediately comment. It was unclear if they would try to appeal.

Lago is one of three upstate casinos recommended by a state siting board in December. Licenses are pending for the casinos.
