The flu season appears to have peaked in many places around the country including Monroe County. The latest weekly numbers show 266 new, laboratory confirmed cases, which is the lowest number of new cases that have been reported for some time during this season.
Overall, there have 5,623 cases of laboratory confirmed flu cases in Monroe County this season, and Health Department spokesman John Ricci says that's more than we've seen for the last couple of years.
“The number of confirmed laboratory cases this year, so far actually, probably exceeds any other number that we’ve had since we’ve been keeping the data; so we very definitely had a lot of flu.”
While the flu season has peaked, Ricci cautions there is still some flu out there, so you need to still take precautions if you are ill, or are around people who may have the flu.
The number of flu deaths remained at 13 in the latest numbers for Monroe County. That is the same number officials saw in last year’s flu season.
