WNY Power Plant Re-energized

Innovation Trail

DUNKIRK, NY (AP) State regulators have approved a deal that will re-energize a western New York power plant.

The state Public Service Commission authorized repowering the Dunkirk power plant using natural gas instead of coal.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo says the $140 million agreement between National Grid and NRG assures its operation for 10 years with added capability to generate 435 megawatts or power.

The refueled facility south of Buffalo is expected to begin operations in the fall of 2015.
