The Ginna Nuclear Power Plant in Wayne County is offline as part of the regular refueling outage that happens periodically.
The owner of the plan, Exelon Generation, says the shutdown that began early Monday ended a successful 18-month operating cycle.
The company says the refueling will provide a boost to the area economy with 200 Exelon employees sent into the area to help with a variety of tasks during the refueling , as well as more than 700 supplemental workers who will be helping out.
Exelon owns the Ginna plant, as well as the Fitzpatrick plant in Oswego County and is a majority owner of the two Nine Mile plants that are adjacent to Fitzpatrick.
There are now subsidies from ratepayers to help keep the nuclear plants operating as part of the state’s clean energy program.
