Sustainability Forum at RIT

Alex Crichton

New York State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli was at Rochester Institute of Technology today to hear from companies the pension fund may want to invest in because of their sustainable business practices.

DiNapoli, who oversees the pension fund, says sustainable companies, even start-ups, are a good investment.

"We think for the long-term, as a pension fund we have a very long term perspective, investing with a company that has incorporated into their policies that consideration of sustainability principles very, very key," he says.

DiNapoli says the pension fund is focused on companies that have a long-term financial plan.

He also outlined for the companies opportunities that are available through the In State rivate Equity Program, which invests in new and expanding companies, and makes equity capital available to small businesses.

Representatives from Caterpillar, Inc., Staples and General Electric talked about their company's sustainable business practices at the forum.
