Harris announced Friday that one of its four business segments will be based in Rochester.
It's Communication Systems unit was formed by combining Harris RF Communications and Exelis Night Vision and Communications.
Corporate headquarters remain in Florida.
The local business provides tactical and airborne radios, night vision technology, and defense and public safety networks.
Harris has operated in Rochester for more than 55 years and the company says it has about 4,000 employees.
