UniPixel Ends Relationship With Kodak

unipixel.com

A partnership between Kodak and a Texas-based company called UniPixel is ending.

UniPixel made the announcement this week that it is ending its manufacturing effort with Kodak at the Eastman Business Park to work on touchscreen technology.

In a financial filing, UniPixel said it determined that the risks required to achieve a viable business model in a reasonable time frame were too great, particularly under an agreement where the two companies were going to share the profits.

Kodak issued a statement saying it is committed to moving forward independently with the touch sensor technology.

“We are pleased to have full control over the technology development program and excited about the business opportunities ahead. We expect to have products based on this technology in the market before the end of this year,” said Philip Cullimore, President ‐Enterprise Inkjet Systems Division and Micro 3D Printing & Packaging Division.

Company spokesperson Louise Kehoe says Kodak still sees a lot of potential in that market.

"The touchscreen market is very big and expanding very rapidly so we see a great deal of opportunity in this."

Kodak is working on touchscreen technology both for smaller screens, like phones and tablets, and larger screens such as computer monitors and commercial displays.
