A tribute to actor Philip Seymour Hoffman at The Little Theatre this weekend will also help raise money for a local film festival.
Capote, the movie about the life of the famous writer that resulted in an Oscar for Hoffman is one of six films being shown at The Little this weekend. Others include: Jack Goes Boating, Pirate Radio, Boogie Nights, Flawless and Doubt.
It's a tribute to the Fairport native who died in early February of a suspected drug overdose. The films will also be shown on the same weekend as the Academy Awards, which are Sunday night.
Theatre manager Derek Reis says it's good timing for this tribute since the Academy Awards are on Sunday night.
"Once we realized the dates for coinciding, we said that's the perfect way for the people to spend the afternoon at The Little, and then go home and in their own private moments watch what I'm sure will be some sort of dedication to him. "
Tickets for the films are five dollars, and proceeds from the event will go to a new Hoffman prize awarded at the Rochester Teen Film Festival. Hoffman's family decided that helping a local effort dedicated to developing new, young filmmakers is a worthy commemoration to the actor's life.
The Little Theatre is operated by WXXI. You can get more information on the festival at www.thelittle.org
