A man survived after he went over the Horseshoe Falls in Canada early Tuesday morning.
The Niagara Parks Police Departement in Ontario says it received a report at around 4 a.m. of a person in distress near the falls. They then watched the man scale the retaining wall, jump into the water and go over the falls.
The man was located in the lower Niagara River Basin, sitting at the water's edge. He was rescued and taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries and for a mental health evaluation.
He is only the fourth person to survive going over the falls unprotected. Eerily, on this date in 1960, 7-year-old Roger Woodward went over the falls after his boat capsized. He was rescued by a Maid of the Mist boat.
In 2009, a Canadian man tried to commit suicide by going over the falls. In 2003, Kirk Jones survived, but not on the second time in 2017.
The Chief of Police for the Niagara Parks says the unidentified man will not face any charges and will receive proper mental health treatment.
