City Sounds Off to Make Crows Take Flight

Loud booms along the Genesee River south of downtown Rochester are part of an effort to scare off crows.

Biologists from the US Department of Agriculture working for the city have kicked off a wildlife management program aimed at dispersing a roost of some 20 thousand crows who've taken up residence near the Time Warner Cable building.

They'll continue to work overnight using pyrotechnics, lasers and recordings of crow distress calls to send the birds away from the Mount Hope Avenue area.

And they say it could take five nights of chasing the birds around the city to get the flock to disperse for good.

They're asking for help from city residents, too: if you see crows gathering, the city wants you to call 311 with the location.
