Veteran state Senator George Maziarz easily won re-nomination in the 62nd district primary Thursday, fending off a challenge from Niagara Falls school board member Johnny Destino in the district that stretches from Niagara County to western Monroe County.
Maziarz has represented the district since 1995, and won by almost a two-to-one margin against Destino, who said the district needed fresh leadership in Albany. Maziarz will face Democrat Amy Hope Witryol in November.
