Interim Rochester Police Chief Cynthia Herriott said Tuesday, that she wants to add a historical perspective to its training programs in order to connect with the community.

During one leg of its marathon review of the city department budgets, Rochester City Council peppered Herriott, flanked by much of her command staff, with questions about her plans for the $90.8 million Rochester Mayor Lovely Warren wants to allocate for police.

Former Rochester Police Chief La’Ron Singletary testified Friday that he did not inform Mayor Lovely Warren that officers suffocated Daniel Prude, and that it never occurred to him that the circumstances of his death were something the public needed to know.

Singletary went on to say that he never had a conversation about publicly releasing information about Prude’s death with Warren or anyone in her administration, and that she reacted with horror and fury when she finally watched video footage of Prude's arrest for the first time in early August.
