A veteran Monroe County prosecutor resigned Tuesday after allegedly writing an Instagram post denigrating the memorial service for George Floyd.

The post, which appeared on the personal Instagram account of Senior Assistant District Attorney Daniel Strollo, read: “7 funerals, a golden casket, and broadcast on every major network for a man who was a violent felon and career criminal? Soldiers die and the family gets a flag.”

A political action committee backed by liberal billionaire philanthropist George Soros dumped nearly $1 million into Democrat Shani Curry Mitchell's unsuccessful bid to unseat Republican Monroe County District Attorney Sandra Doorley, new campaign finance records show.

That Soros had invested hundreds of thousands of dollars into the race through the committee, New York Justice & Public Safety PAC, had been reported in the weeks leading up to the election.

District attorney’s race is about justice

Justice is a malleable term, but fundamentally and conceptually, it is about fairness, both for people accused of crimes and people who are victims of them.

The Monroe County district attorney’s race illustrates just how subjective justice is, as a concept and as a practice. The two candidates converge on some issues and diverge on others.
