The president of the union representing Rochester police officers on Monday offered tepid praise for the selection of Cynthia Herriott-Sullivan as the city's new interim police chief.

Rochester Police Locust Club President Michael Mazzeo and Rochester Police Chief La’Ron Singletary will not serve on the city-county Commission on Racial and Structural Equity, the commission co-chair, Bill Johnson, said Wednesday.

Johnson also called for a "ceasefire" between public officials, police and those protesting the death of Daniel Prude after he was restrained by police in March. The news of Prude's death was made public last week.

Addressing the death of Daniel Prude publicly for the first time, the president of the Rochester police union said Friday that the officers involved in Prude's arrest conducted themselves consistent with their training.

Rochester’s Police Accountability Board will not be able to punish police officers -- for now, anyway.

State Supreme Court Judge John Ark ruled Tuesday that the newly created board can operate, but he is strictly limiting what they can do. 

Monroe County's top cops shun 'annoyance law'

A trio of Monroe County's most visible law enforcement officers -- the county sheriff, Rochester's police chief, and the city's police union president -- on Wednesday decried a new county law outlawing intentionally annoying an officer or other first responder.
