Governor Andrew Cuomo has set April 28 as the day for the special election in the 27th Congressional District, as well as vacant NY Senate and Assembly seats.

The 27th district is the Western NY seat previously held by Republican Chris Collins, who gave up that position last September. Collins resigned at around the time he also pleaded guilty to charges in an insider trading case.

Jamie Romeo has been appointed by Governor Andrew Cuomo to fill in the vacant position of Monroe County Clerk through the rest of this year.

That clerk position became vacant as of January 1 when Romeo’s fellow Democrat, Adam Bello, took office as Monroe County Executive.

Romeo, who currently is a member of the New York state Assembly representing the 136th district, said the opportunity was too good to pass up. She had already announced that she is a candidate for the position.

Assemblywoman Jamie Romeo will seek the Democratic nomination for Monroe County Clerk next year, the spot that will be vacant by Adam Bello after he was elected county executive.

Mayor Lovely Warren said Thursday that she was first approached to take mayoral control of the Rochester City School District earlier this year.

The district has been under increased scrutiny from state Education Commissioner MaryEllen Elia because of its fiscal and management problems and its long history of poor graduation rates.

Warren would not say who approached her, but she did say she’d rather have experts run the district.
