When I was a kid, I lost a glove on the McCurdy's department store escalator downtown. I was maybe 9, and my mom was angry. We were late for our bus and I wouldn’t stop talking.

We made it — barely. As the bus pulled away from East Main and Franklin streets, I looked up at this giant pole, and wondered: What is that thing?

Turns out, the concept for a Liberty Pole began thousands of years ago.

In the latest WXXI Business Report - Datto, a provider of data software and solutions with roots in Rochester, went public, filing for an IPO that launched last week.

Also, the leader of the Rochester Downtown Development Corporation says the proposed ‘Innovation Square' at the former Xerox Tower building will be an “explosively powerful project,” bringing hundreds of young people into the center of the city.

Plus, Carestream, the local medical imaging company, is using a state grant to provide personal protective equipment (face shields) during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Gallina Development has unveiled plans for a redevelopment of the former Xerox Tower building Xerox Square that would focus on bringing hundreds of college students from multiple institutions into that campus downtown.

Company President Andy Gallina said that Innovation Square, as it will be known, would house 450 or more upper level and graduate students from various colleges, providing an alternative to traditional on-campus housing
