Rochester City Council finance committee chairman Malik Evans said that financial trouble on the state level will make crafting the city’s budget more challenging.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo said that 20% of state aid to municipalities like Rochester may be cut due to shortfalls caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

Evans also said that shortfalls in the city’s tax collections will affect its budget.

Rochester City School District Superintendent Terry Dade joins us to talk about his draft budget. He discusses the challenging decisions facing the district, including cuts to teaching positions, services, and more.

Monroe County Clerk Adam Bello is not happy that the Republican-led county legislature stripped out funding for a proposed downtown DMV location. Bello says the anti-poverty initiative has shown how important it is to offer services to city residents related to transportation. Republicans have said their decision was based on providing more funding for child care services. Bello and Monroe County Legislature Majority Leader Brian Marianetti (R-Greece) are in studio to debate.

On Tuesday night, the Monroe County legislature will pass a billion-dollar budget. What's in it? The county says they had to make some hard cuts; Democrats say the child care cuts are too severe. We'll get in to the other details with both sides, as we send the first half-hour with Legislature Minority Leader Carrie Andrews, and the remaining half-hour with Majority Leader Steve Tucciarello.

Monroe County Executive Maggie Brooks presented the 2014 budget proposal Tuesday night, her 10th proposal since she took office.

The budget includes no property tax increase for the tenth consecutive year, and Brooks says if it’s passed it will reduce the county’s structural deficit for the second year in a row.
