Two local utilities are donating more money to local COVID-19 relief efforts.

Rochester Gas and Electric, and New York State Electric and Gas, which are both part of AVANGRID, are donating an additional $300,000 to local relief efforts. $125,000 of that will go to the Rochester Community Crisis Fund and five local food programs.

In total, the two utilities have contributed $575,000 to local emergency response organizations in New York state.

Avangrid, the parent company for Rochester Gas & Electric and NYSEG, says crews are on standby for this weekend's windstorm.

The forecast predicts gusts of up to 60 to 65 miles per hour in Rochester and western New York, especially on Sunday afternoon and Sunday night.

The power company said it’s preparing to have additional resources in place to respond to downed lines and outages. That includes company and contract resources.


 A $10,000 gift will help 20 city high school students explore some career options.

Avangrid, the parent company of Rochester Gas & Electric, awarded the scholarship funds to the Urban League’s GEAR UP program.

The USA subsidiary of the worldwide utility that owns RG and E and 7 others in New York and New England has a new name.

Iberdrola is now Avangrid. The company formed when Iberdrola USA and UIL Holdings merged.

In a statement, the company says it will have 30-billion dollars in assets in wind energy, utilities and natural gas storage.

The combined company will operate in 28 states.
