Organizers of this year’s KeyBank Rochester Fringe Festival have announced the headliner for the annual free, outdoor show at what is called, “Friday & Saturday on the Fringe.”
That part of the festival, on September 13 and 14, will present the return of French street theater company Plasticiens Volants.
The Fringe Festival had the group in Rochester two years ago on Parcel 5, drawing about 10,000 each of two nights.
Organizers say that , the internationally renowned group will turn downtown Rochester into a giant aquarium with a U.S. premiere: Pearl: Secrets of the Sea.
Using their giant inflatable puppets, Plasticiens Volants’ two, 8 p.m. performances will begin with a 15-minute promenade, as sea creatures – including a 60-foot whale – “swim” down Chestnut and Main Streets. Then, at Parcel 5, there will be a performance involving a gigantic sea serpent, an enormous octopus, and a precious pearl.
Altogether, the Fringe Festival, which runs from September 10-21, will feature more than 570 events and performances.
