Wegmans to expand into Delaware; the company is also expanding curbside pickup in Rochester

Wegmans will be expanding to Delaware. The company says that the site, outside of Wilmington, was announced at a public meeting in that area this week.

Delaware will eventually the the 8th state that Wegmans does business in. North Carolina will be #7, with a store in Raleigh opening there this fall.

Other states where the supermarkets are located in are: New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Virginia, Maryland and Massachusetts.

Wegmans says it’s excited about the prospect of opening a store in Delaware. The company says the timeline for construction and opening will depend on the approval process. Wegmans opens just three stores each year. It currently has 98 stores.

The Rochester-based chain also has announced that it has now expanded curbside grocery pickup to all of its Rochester-area stores. It introduced the service last March at its Pittsford store, and last September at the Chili-Paul Wegmans.  The expansion of the service to the remaining Rochester stores will be completed by February 28.
