A high-end department store chain that has made a name for itself in the Midwest is now making its start in the Rochester area. The new Von Maur store at Eastview Mall is the first one for that company in this part of the country.
They actually had a "soft" opening earlier in the week, to get everything up and running smoothly, and the grand opening is Saturday. The store is located where the old Bon Store once stood, and it’s part of a $55 million expansion project at Eastview that also includes the addition of stores such as Vera Bradley and Michael Kors.
The President of the 28 store chain, Jim Von Maur says that his company had been told about this area for some time, and eventually got out here a few years ago.
"We finally made the trip and were just pleasantly surprised by the community and really impressed with the growth and the sophistication of the whole area. "
Von Maur says his store will employ about 130 people to start and they hope to eventually grow that number. He says they also hope to add other stores in the Northeast.
