Two people die after a Rochester Fire

TWC News

Rochester fire officials now say that two of the victims from an early morning fire on High St. on Saturday have died.

A third is in guarded condition in the hospital. Their identities have not been released yet.

Firefighters were first called to the house at 99 High St. near North Goodman St. just before 5:30 a.m. When they got there, a tenant told them that there were people trapped inside.

A second alarm was called, and officials say firefighters endured great personal risk to rescue an adult and two children.

Four others escaped and three of them were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Three firefighters were also taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Two were released and one was still being evaluated Saturday morning.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. Authorities say there was a smoke detector in the home.
