Strong winds expected on Wednesday throughout the region

Holiday travelers on Wednesday will have to deal with some potential weather issues, both across Upstate NY and in other parts of the country, as a strong cold front sweeps through the region.

The National Weather Service has issued a Wind Advisory for counties including Monroe, Livingston, Wayne and Ontario from 1pm Wednesday to 1am on Thursday. Wind gusts up to 50 mph are possible.

Winds could be stronger to the west of Rochester, where there is a High Wind Warning for counties including Orleans, Genesee and Wyoming, with gusts of up to 60mph possible.

News 8 Meteorologists Josh Nichols expects a high temperature near 60 on Wednesday, but turning colder on Thanksgiving with a high then of 40 degrees.

Wednesday should see a few showers and Thursday the forecast calls for some sun and some flurries.

Area utilities including RG&E, NYSEG and National Grid say they are getting crews in place to deal potential damage caused by downed trees and power lines.
