State Senator Michael Ranzenhofer won't run for re-election

WBFO

A State Senator from Western New York says he won’t run for another term.

Michael Ranzenhofer  of the 61st Senate District represents parts of Western New York including the Towns of Chili and Riga, the Village of Churchville and part of the City of Rochester and all of Genesee County. He was first elected to the NYS Senate in 2008.

Ranzenhofer says after spending about 12 years in Albany and 20 years in the Erie County Legislature, it’s time for a change and he wants to spend more time with his family.

Some other Republican state senators have said they will not run again next year. Republicans have been in the minority in the state legislature the last year or so, but Ranzenhofer says that change in status isn’t what spurred him not to run again.

“So whether I was in the minority or the majority it really didn’t make a difference to me in terms of whether or not I wanted to serve. When I finish out my term I’ll spend four years in the minority and eight in the majority and I love them all and so for others it may be a factor, but certainly is not a factor for me,” Ranzenhofer said.

Ranzenhofer says among the things he’s most proud of is legislation he worked on to revise the state laws affecting not-for-profit organizations.
