Snow tapers down, but bitter cold weather into the weekend

A winter storm dumped several inches of snow in much of the Rochester area and the Finger Lakes on Friday.  

The Winter Storm Warning was cancelled late Friday afternoon for Monroe and several other counties, but remained in effect for some counties to the east, including Wayne until later in the day, but that has been cancelled now as well.

The NYS Thruway Authority on Friday announced that the speed limit on the Thruway between Pembroke (exit 48A) and Amsterdam, (exit 27), was reduced to 45mph due to the winter weather conditions). That was lifted later in the day, as were local travel advisories.

Rochester City Hall closed up early, as did the major local shopping malls, which closed at 3pm on Friday. The malls will be back open on Saturday.

There were several school closing announcementsincluding the Rochester City School District on Friday.

In fact, RCSD Supt. Terry Dade provided a tuneful way on Twitter to announce the district's closing:

Friday night will see the snow taper off, with a low of 16, and Saturday will be very cold, with some snow showers to start, then some sun, and a high of 18.

Sunday’s forecast calls for a lot of clouds with a high of 36.
