The last-place Buffalo Sabres made a two trades today, with one that will bolsters their lineup if they get the first overall pick in the draft.
Around noon, the Sabres receive forward Evander Kane, defenseman Zach Bogosian, and goaltending prospect Jason Kadorf from the Jets in exchange for Drew Stafford, Tyler Myers, Joel Armia (who was playing for the Rochester Americans), junior player Brenden Lemieux, and the lowest of the three first-round picks the Sabres have in the 2015 draft.
Kane has spent his entire NHL career with the Atlanta/Winnipeg franchise, he was the fourth overall pick in the 2009 draft. He had his best season in 2011-12 when he tallied 30 goals and 57 points. He had 10 goals in 37 games this year before being placed on season-ending injured reserve.
Bogosian was the third overall pick in the 2008 draft by Atlanta. He has 11 points this season, his best output was 30 points in 2011-12.
The trade sends Winnipeg a calder-cup winning defenseman in Myers, who was never able to regain the form he showed in his first NHL season. Stafford, along with Myers, was a first round pick of the Sabres.
Later, the Sabres sent starting goaltender Jonas Enroth to the Dallas Stars in exchange for goaltender Anders Lindback and a conditional third round pick in 2016.
